This year, Christmas at Snape Maltings will be bigger, brighter and more festive than ever before. In addition to the annual Christmas Spectacular! from the Co-op Juniors Theatre Company (4-13 December) and Father Christmas arriving by Thames sailing barge (13 December), Aldeburgh Music and Snape Maltings are launching a brand new arts and retail weekend from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 December, demonstrating the exciting possibilities of the newly-unified site.

The weekend will offer families a host of free events and activities, including a Christmas Farmer’s Market, Decoration-making Workshops, Christmas Message Tree, carol singers and pop-up performances around the site, a chance to have a go at conducting a Brass Band, a Festive Floral Demonstration, storytelling sessions, the 1,000 Suffolk Stars exhibition by Suffolk schoolchildren, and a Site Trail with a chocolatey prize for children who solve the puzzle.

There’ll also be an event in Snape Maltings Concert Hall each day of the weekend. On Friday 18th the outstanding John Wilson Orchestra play Christmas songs from Hollywood movies. On Saturday 19th Aldeburgh Voices, fellows of the National Youth Choir and The Suffolk Ensemble perform an early evening concert of Christmas music by Bach. And on Sunday 20th at 3pm everyone is invited to come and join in Sing Christmas, a rousing family-friendly weekend finale with a mix of traditional carols and classic Christmas hits.
