The AW14 collection Artemisia from French designer Jean-Pierre Braganza oozes sophistication and refinement with a hint of rebellion
Artemisia AW14 collection was initially inspired by early baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi; Braganza was inspired by her treatment of light and shade in her paintings, but particularly with her painting Gentileschi: ‘the contrast between dark shadows and illumination in her work was so intensely reflected in her life. Confluence of opposites like chiaroscuro have always intrigued me, and here I have combined structure with softness, formality with fluidity, and toughness with femininity,’ explains Braganza.
Artemisia combines textures like printed duchesse satin, embossed-effect in navy, burgundy and silver then adds artistic elements like the coverall, tied at the waist, and urban shapes like the bomber jacket and zip detail trousers for an alluring combination of structure and delicateness with an air of sophistication.
Structure is a big theme this season and Braganza displays this in the pullover, which is structured yet versatile and made form unusual fabrics like quilted denim and leather.
