Glasswells introduces a bespoke blind service to its Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich stores.

2014 saw the introduction of legislation incorporating a change to continuous loop cords on blinds; it is now a legal requirement for all new blinds to be equipped or installed with concealed or tension cords, or be completely cordless. If a blind is designed with a continuous loop cord, it must now hang at least 1.5m above the floor. This change provoked a growing demand for bespoke blind solutions, inspiring East Anglia’s largest independent department store, Glasswells, to introduce a brand new bespoke blind service in its Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds stores.

The service, supplied by Illumin8, provides customers with a wide choice of designs, but also peace of mind when considering safety and installation factors. Sarah Woodvine, Buyer at Glasswells, states that Illumin8 supplies ‘a large range of blind designs and models, which means that we really can find the perfect blind to dress even the most difficult window, even bi-fold doors’. With hundreds of styles, fabrics and designs to choose from, Glasswells should expect a high amount of interest from homeowners in the area. Their studio installation displays the blinds at full-length, allowing customers to visualise how the blinds would appear in context. This also offers the opportunity for clients to operate the blinds for themselves and test out whether the design would be appropriate for their home environment.

In acknowledgement of the new safety standards, Glasswells are also offering the choice to motorise certain styles of blinds to make them completely safe for children in the home. Motorised blinds are safe by design, as they eliminate the need for continuous loop cords and can be operated by the push of a button. This design comes complete with a wireless controller, which can be operated from a distance, allowing the client to regulate the device as needed.

Glasswells’ fantastic team are equipped to provide a free window measuring service, and they are always on hand in store to answer any technical questions or help match up fabrics and textures. Once a customer has selected their blind design, they can expect their order to be ready in ten working days – a hugely competitive turnaround.
