Glamour reaches new heights in Cannes’ inaugural dedicated Fashion Festival

We are all familiar with the glamorous, star-spangled event that is Cannes International Film Festival, but for the first time the stylish French city hosts a brand new fashion event – the Cannes Fashion Festival – held at the stunning Hotel Majestic Barriere.

This year will see the inaugural Fashion Festival display Cannes fashion in a new light. Though the Film Festival has been a fashion event in itself for years, with A-List celebrities flocking to Southern France to walk the red carpet and attend screenings in the latest couture, a dedicated Fashion Festival will encourage appearances from some of fashion biggest influencers.

The catwalk shows will take place over three fabulous days and nights, from Wednesday 20th to Friday 22nd May, wedged nicely between the dates of the Film Festival, which is being held directly opposite the Hotel Majestic Barriere.

Laura Millet, director of the festival, hopes for the event to become ‘a staple on the international fashion calendar’. Considering that the Film Festival is the second largest media event in the world (the largest is the Olympics), designers at the Fashion Festival should expect a decent amount of coverage from the approximate 4,000 international journalists gathered in Cannes during May.

The show has recently announced that it has appointed one of the fashion industry’s top model scouts. Former model, Carolien ter Linden, will scout 100 models to star in the festival, emphasising the important role of models and muses within the creative industries. Nicknamed ‘the 100 diamonds’ of Cannes Fashion Festival, the 80 women and 20 men will walk the runways in collections by an exclusive list of designers to be announced at the end of February 2015, following the last major Fashion Week AW15 show.

Rose Marie Perez, organiser of the festival, says, ‘I chose Carolien to scout the models for the first ever festival because she is an experienced model and knows very well what designers expect’. Rose’s team are already pulling out all the stops to raise the bar for the standard of Cannes Fashion Festival, so we’re excited to see how the event pans out!

Can’t make it to Cannes but still want to catch the designer collections as they are unveiled? The festival will be streamed live online for a worldwide audience, providing an insight into the Fashion Festival as it happens. The service will also be offering exclusive designer interviews so that viewers can get a taste of the passion, hard work and quality craftsmanship that go into each collection.
