Print collective to launch new edition of work dedicated to the life of David Bowie.
Suffolk based creatives Off The Press Collective are set to launch an new exclusive print edition dedicated to the life of the late musician David Bowie: Scary Monsters and Super Creeps.
Off The Press Collective are a group of arts creatives who specialise in the production of affordable high quality screen prints. We are dedicated in bringing together talented individuals to create unique print editions that we exhibit exclusively through several pop up exhibitions a year.
Off The Press Collective recently turned their attention to a subject that had deeply impacted them in 2016, the passing of the musical icon David Bowie. ”We were heartbroken when we found out about his passing especially as whenever we worked together one of us would end up with his music playing in the background”, says James Treadaway from Off The Press Collective. ‘We had spent so much of 2016 mourning his death we decided we wanted to make a collection of works that celebrated his life instead, that’s how this print edition began.’
The Collective have invited 10 local artists to produce a brand new art work based upon their lasting memory of the late musician. Compiling a list of the defining eras of Bowie’s life, OTP approached print makers, graphic designers, children’s book illustrators and fine artists to create a new image that both brought back their own memories of the music and the iconic looks of the man.
Anna Bird, a print maker for Off The Press Collective said, ‘All of the artist we approached were really keen to be involved with the project and each have been drawn to a different era of his life.’
From Aladdin Sane to the Berlin Era, Hunky Dory to Blackstar, the exhibition entitled “Scary Monsters & Super Creeps’ is set to be a true celebration of David Bowie’s life. The print edition will be launched in Bury St Edmunds’ independent Abbeygate Cinema and open on Friday 6th January 2017, spanning across what would have been Bowie’s 70th birthday and also the first anniversary of his passing.
