Our editor Victoria Guthrie visits SK Clinic + Spa for a Pevonia Prescriptive Facial

A beautiful old building on Northgate Street in Bury St Edmunds is home to SK Clinic + Spa, a beauty salon known for its bespoke treatments and luxurious products.

Spa manager Sian Thomas has an acute understanding of the uniqueness of each and every person that steps foot into the salon. No two clients will have exactly the same skin or requirements. With that in mind, Sian and the team at SK offer a tailored concept for each and every client.

I was invited along to experience the award winning Pevonia Prescriptive facial, a treatment that can be tailored to all skin types. It is a world renowned, award-winning example of prescriptive skincare in action. It has received multiple commendations throughout the beauty industry and for good reason!

When I arrived I was shown through to the waiting area, a calm, gently lit space with sofas to await my therapist, Anna. Anna showed me through to the treatment room and talked me through the process, explaining the different steps and benefits of the techniques that would be used.

Anna began by cleansing and steaming the skin and followed this with a skin diagnosis using a UV lamp – something which I’ve never experienced before in any other facial. The UV allowed Anna to see 2mm under the skin to find signs of sensitivity, dehydration, sun damage and congestion. This in-depth analysis lets Pevonia therapists to consider and respond to both internal and external factors, enabling them to prescribe the most suitable products to achieve long-term, stable and visible results.

It turns out my skin was quite sensitive after having returned from holidaying for two weeks in the baking hot sun. Anna decided that hydrating products would be the most appropriate to put some moisture back into the skin. The products used are from a popular American brand that is gaining popularity in the UK for the natural ingredients, visible results and effectiveness. The Pevonia products, when applied to my skin, felt really rich, silky and luxurious.

Anna followed this with extraction of any congestion to remove any problematic blackheads. My skin was then exfoliated with an Enzyme Powder Mask which is a wonderful creamy exfoliator, containing Pineapple and Papaya enzymes which eat away at the dead skin cells, preparing the skin for an even deeper clean.

An ampoule of Vitamin C Concentrate was then applied to replenish and rejuvenate the skin. The Dry Skin Mask was gently applied with a brush and left to work its magic whilst Anna worked her own massaging my neck and shoulders. The mask was removed with hot towels which added to the feeling of being in a fluffy cloud of loveliness!

The alcohol-free Hydrating Lotion was then used to tone my skin and the balancing combination skin cream was the finishing touch. It moisturised, nourished, offered t-zone oil control and left my skin feeling
silky smooth.

The whole experience was blissful to say the least. Anna put me at ease and made me feel comfortable throughout and I particularly liked the extra wide beds that had enough space for even the most relaxed of arms.

I had a bit of a breakout afterwards where my skin was expelling the toxins from deep within. A quick phone call and Sian explained that it was completely normal; she offered me fantastic aftercare and advice – I felt really taken care of.

All in all the Pevonia Prescriptive facial made me feel fresh and revitalised. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is feeling like their skin needs a boost and wants to gain some honest and professional advice.
