Showing no signs of slowing down following the recent tracks ‘Typical Story’ and ‘Uglykid’, Sacramento’s Hobo Johnson shares his latest new song ‘Subaru Crosstrek XV’. It emerges ahead of his second album ‘The Fall of Hobo Johnson’ which will be released on September 13th via Reprise / Warner Records.
Produced by Ryan Lewis, the song pays homage to the car Hobo bought when he upgraded from the ‘94 Toyota Corolla he used to live in. The ‘Subaru Crosstrek XV’ is said to be built to last and engineered for a long, interesting life. It’s the kind of mission statement a resourceful guy like Hobo Johnson can get behind. As the chorus repeats, “I just bought a Subaru Crosstrek, I would’ve bought a Lambo, but I’m not quite there yet.”
Zane Lowe today premiered ‘Subaru Crosstrek XV’ as his World Record on Beats 1. It continues Lowe’s support for Hobo Johnson after he highlighted ‘Uglykid’ as his World First.
‘Subaru Crosstrek XV’, ‘Uglykid’ and ‘Typical Story’ all feature on ‘The Fall of Hobo Johnson’ which is available to pre-order from https://hobojohnson.lnk.to/thefallof.
This summer has seen Hobo hit Lollapalooza, and make his TV debut with a show-stopping performance of ‘Typical Story’ on ‘Late Night with Seth Myers’. He’s set to play a show hosted by Banquet Records at Kingston’s Pryzm on August 21st before headlining the Festival Republic stage at the Reading (August 23rd) and Leeds (August 24th) festivals. He’ll them embark upon his North American ‘The Fall Tour of Hobo Johnson’ which runs from early October until the end of November.

Hobo Johnson – real name Frank Lopes – adopted his artist moniker after being kicked out of his parents’ house and moving to live in his ’94 Corolla. The half Azorean Portuguese, quarter Mexican and Native American vocalist built a grassroots following via viral home-grown videos showcasing his amalgamation of spoken word poetry, punk, folk and rap backed by his band The Lovemakers.
Hobo’s momentum reached a tipping point through his entry in NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest, which went viral (26 million streams) despite not winning. Bursting with unadulterated sincerity, his genre-defying sound feels akin to musical anomalies of the past and future. Released in 2017, his self-released debut album ‘The Rise of Hobo Johnson’ has accumulated over 105 million streams, and his impact will continue to grow with the release of ‘The Fall of Hobo Johnson’.
