Sharon Higgs, owner of Just a Day Bridalwear, advises on choosing the perfect wedding gown
Finding the perfect wedding gown can be easy for some and difficult for others but the secret is to stop, take a deep breath and stay calm. It’s quite normal to start looking for your gown around 12 months in advance as delivery usually takes about 20 weeks from the manufacturer. This then leaves plenty of time for accessory shopping and the actual fitting of the gown.
Although bridal gowns can vary from a few hundred to a few thousand pounds they will still need to be altered to fit the bride properly as they are not made to fit from the manufacturer. Most bridal boutiques will ask for a 50% deposit on order or if the order is placed even earlier some boutiques offer different payment options.
Some brides believe that the need to travel to every nearby town and visit every single shop is necessary but it’s also ok to find the dress in the first shop, too.
Once you think you’ve found your perfect gown, my advice is to always ask yourself four key questions: do you feel excitement? Glamorous? Confident? Sexy? When you feel all of these emotions it’s normally the case that you look great too!
I have been in the bridal industry for almost 22 years and I have never seen so much style and choice available to the bride-to-be as there is at the moment. Should a bride chooses to wear a full ball gown or a slinky bias cut dress with or without sleeves, plain satin or covered in lace, head-to-toe in glitz or not a shiny stone in sight, it really is ok.
With such a wonderful and endless array of dresses, 2015 really is a wonderful time to get married.
