With a heritage mix akin to the likes of global musician, Paolo Nutini, Brenda MacLeod’s designer tote bags are designed in Inverness, Scotland, and handmade in Florence, Italy. Why go all that way to manufacture a bag? Because Tuscany hosts some of the best tanneries in Europe – and with MacLeod’s stunning designs, this makes a winning combination.
Designed with the traditional trapeze tote shape in mind, each bag is crafted from vegetable-tanned leather which has been left untreated to retain its individual grain pattern, taking on a unique patina over time. Shades are warm and rich, and range from classic black to smart brown, to vibrant blue and cherry red – a bag to suit any outfit. Sturdy with plenty of storage space, MacLeod’s totes are made to last a lifetime and, like a black dress or nude courts, are endlessly versatile; we see ourselves wearing one to work, out shopping AND for a lunch date.
Endearingly, MacLeod names all of her bags after her beloved family members and friends. The Grace tote, named after her sister, is ‘elegant and smart’. The Eka shoulder bag is named after Brenda’s mother who is tiny, tidy, organised and contained. Jane, named after Brenda’s niece, can hold everything; ‘Jane can handle anything and her namesake bag had to be able to shoulder it all’. The Joan tote, inspired by Brenda’s best friend is stylish and sleek; ‘Both Joan the person and Joan the bag are subtle attention getters’.
