Time to come out of the dark and into the bright, colourful light – SS16 is here, and the Retro Tropicana trend is reigning supreme
Think plenty of corals, warm metallics and ocean blues: this is Retro Tropicana, and it originated back in the 40s and 50s when the end of the war gave way to mass travel. People began to adopt the styles of different cultures, bringing back trinkets and niknaks made by locals to display in their homes, and suddenly it was fashionable to be an accomplished traveller.
The trend died down during the last few decades of the 20th century, but was revived for the 2014 catwalks, where we saw dozens of designers use loud, tropical prints on clothing and accessories, across the genders.
