With the Suffolk Fashion Show less than a month away, we meet up with some of the retailers showcasing their collections on the catwalk. Here we talk to Niki P London about her autumn/winter designs.

What will you be showcasing at the Suffolk Fashion Show this year?

My crowd-funding campaign will be launching this September during London Fashion Week and I am really excited to bring you an exclusive insight of my first collection of wearable art clothes. These will include printed silk kimonos and comfy dresses. My aim is to make women feel comfortable and confident but special at the same time.

What inspires your wearable artwork?

Travel and the natural beauty around us inspires my artwork. I love to take beautiful details we sometimes miss and celebrate them in my designs as something you get to enjoy everyday. What really inspires me too is my customer, I get so much pleasure out of creating something that makes people feel good, confident and special. That really is what my brand is about, designing beautiful products to enchant and inspire.

What made you decide to be involved with the Suffolk Fashion Show?

I’m a country girl at heart of course! Suffolk is where I grew up my family’s farm, I think this is part of the reason I gravitate towards wildlife in my designs. My first collection was designed around Suffolk countryside featuring illustrations of foxes, herons and even rams. I’m excited to return to my roots to showcase an exclusive pick of some of my new designs.

How would you describe your textiles to someone who hasn’t seen them before?

I would describe them as whimsical and enchanting! I always begin by hand illustrating my artworks with sketches and watercolours on paper. I then transform them into stunning textiles that tell a story. They are that something special to put a smile on your face and make you feel good as isn’t that what life is about? And what’s even better? You get to wear them!

Where do you source your silk for your pieces?

I work closely with a family run silk specialist in England who help me print my designs onto 100% silk. They source the finest quality silks from around the world.

Niki will be featuring her full range of wearable art silk accessories as well as bringing you an exclusive insight into her exciting new collection of clothes. She will be launching a crowd-funding campaign this September to help fund the full collection and present at Pure trade show in February. You can check out her list of rewards by visiting www.nikip.co.uk for a chance to pick up some exclusive pieces, limited addition prints, or even work one to one with designer NIKI P to create your own wearable art silk dress which will be named after you and featured in the collection!
