Edinburgh’s finest Georgian building, the Signet Library, welcomes guests for afternoon tea in their new Colonnades tea salon.
The library recently underwent a restoration process, during which the floor-to-ceiling Corinthian columns were repainted in an angelic white, new lighting was installed to create a heavenly glow around the gallery’s balustrades, and a bespoke, handwoven carpet was fitted to complete the final look.
Tables for four are now placed in juxtaposition with the nine-shelf-tall bookcases lining the walls of the room, reminding visitors of the original purpose of the Signet Library. A transcendent botanical centrepiece, surrounded on all sides by plush red velvet seating, creates a contrast to the gentle atmosphere of the adjacent décor.
Guests can indulge in drinks, a light lunch, or a delectable afternoon tea – self-dubbed the finest of its kind within Edinburgh; the latter includes a selection of seasonal sandwiches, a variety of savouries and decadent cakes created by the Colonnades resident pastry chef – presented on an elaborate silver tiered stand.
A tempting range of champagnes, cocktails and teas – including the salon’s bespoke Signet Blend – adds to the extravagance. Unlike your average afternoon tea service, the culinary team behind the Colonnades is prepared to cater for every dietary requirement – so you’ll never feel left out. Visitors have already described the salon as ‘the venue for afternoon tea in Edinburgh’, and the food ‘impressive’ and ‘remarkable’, setting the bar high for guests visiting in the coming months – but we’re certain that they’ll deliver!
