Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds is committed to ensuring that theatrical productions can be accessible to all and the annual pantomime is no exception. For Sleeping Beauty there are two accessible performances scheduled: a BSL Interpreted performance on Wed 12 Dec at 2pm and a Relaxed Performance on Fri 11 Jan at 1.30pm.
Join us in the medieval kingdom of Burytonia for magic, mayhem and more. You’ll meet mythical beasts and even take a journey beneath the earth. Most importantly you’ll discover if love really can conquer all.
The BSL Interpreted performance on Wed 12 Dec at 2pm, will have an interpreter at the side of the stage to relay the dialogue in real time using British Sign Language. The Box Office team will be happy to advise which seats provide the best possible view of the interpreter and bookings can be made by email via firstname.lastname@example.org
The Relaxed Performance will be on Fri 11 Jan at 1.30pm, where changes will be made to the show to allow for a more informal experience. Sound volumes and lighting levels will be reduced to soften their impact; pyrotechnics, flashing lights and other surprising elements are removed; and the auditorium lights will stay on during the performance. In addition to these changes, the show will begin with an introduction to the characters, explaining in particular any elements which may be unfamiliar to some, and there will also be a brief description of the story and events which will happen during the performance.
The Relaxed Performance is intended to be dementia and autism friendly but the team aim to accommodate all guests needs as much as possible: seats can be booked in a manner which allows groups their own space and due to the nature of the layout of the Dress Circle and Upper Circle boxes, a smaller semi-isolated space can be easily obtained. A complimentary companion ticket is available to anyone who would be unable to attend the theatre on their own. To discuss specific requirements or any other queries in relation to the Relaxed Performance and to book tickets please contact Aaron on 01284 829931.
Accessible performances at Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds are supported by The St Edmunds Trust and we are very grateful for their ongoing support.
