Lee Bye, Head Chef at Tuddenham Mill, a hotel and restaurant located in between Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds, was awarded the prestigious Acorn Award. Lee was announced as the winner in the celebration ceremony on Monday 13th June at Chewton Glen hotel in Hampshire. The award was presented by The Caterer magazine’s editor Amanda Afiya.

Each year the esteemed Acorn Awards recognise and cherry-pick 30 rising stars from every sector of the UK’s hospitality industry. Every applicant has to be under 30 years old and nominated by their peers for demonstrating exceptional skills and accomplishments in their field. The winners are selected after a thorough evaluation of their achievements and impact on business by the judging panel. Previous Acorn Award winners include well known chefs as Marco Pierre White, Marcus Wareing and Michael Caines.

It is a huge honour for Lee, and a very proud moment for Tuddenham Mill, to be recognised nationwide in the industry that employs nearly 3 million people. Lee has been Tuddenham Mill’s Head Chef for over 2 years, and his talent has consistently been praised by food inspectors and critics, and featured in a number of the country’s independent guides and awards. His growing collection of recent accolades include: Suffolk’s Best Restaurant Award in the Suffolk Food & Drink Awards 2016, Suffolk’s Chef of the Year Award in the Suffolk Food & Drink Awards 2015, Square Meal’s UK Top 100 list and the prestigious Good Food Guide Editors’ Award 2015 for the Best Set Lunch menu.
